Lift chair buying questions, answered
What does a "dual motor" or "infinite position" lift chair mean?
A single-motor chair moves the backrest and leg rest together. A dual (twin) motor chair drives them independently, so you can put your legs up while sitting upright — often called "infinite position", because the back and legs set to any angle, including near lay-flat. Most chairs on this page are dual-motor; our manual La-Z-Boy recliners (no motor) are also listed so you can compare them.
Which lift chair holds the most weight?
The Heavy-Duty Electric Lift Chair is our strongest at 220kg, with the widest seat (up to 67.5cm). The iCare VMotion is rated to 170kg, and most standard chairs hold 130–150kg.
What is a zero-gravity lift chair?
A zero-gravity chair reclines so your legs rise toward heart level, taking pressure off the spine and helping circulation — the position astronauts use at launch. It's ideal for swelling, back comfort and long periods of rest.
How much room does a lift chair need?
Allow roughly the chair's overall width (76–92cm here) plus clearance behind for the backrest to recline — most "wall-hugger" style chairs need only 15–30cm behind. Measure your space before ordering; call us on 022 022 9956 if you're unsure.
What makes the iCare chairs different?
The iCare VMotion and VFit Clinical Seating System are made to order in Northland, NZ, with four-motor and modular options for pressure care and complex needs — often prescribed by occupational therapists. As made-to-order items they're built to your spec, so change-of-mind returns don't apply.

Is a La-Z-Boy recliner or rocker motorised — does it lift you out of the seat?
No. The La-Z-Boy Pinnacle rocker and mobile recliners are manual — you recline and rock with a handle on the outside arm, but they are not powered and do not lift or tilt you up towards standing the way a power lift chair does. They’re still a great option for many people: they come in easy-clean antimicrobial Vinyl (PU) upholstery that simply wipes down, and the mobile model rolls on a braked wheeled base so a user can be moved easily between rooms. If you need help getting up to standing, choose one of the powered lift chairs above.
