What might be funded?
Mobility Plus supplies a wide range of equipment that may be eligible for WINZ support, including:
- Walking frames and rollators (tri walkers, lightweight, carbon fibre)
- Wheelchairs (manual and transport chairs)
- Shower stools and bathroom safety equipment
- Over-toilet frames and commodes
- Lift chairs and recliners
- Mobility scooters (where applicable)
- Daily living aids (sock aids, reachers, dressing aids)
If you're unsure what you need, we can help guide you to the right product.
Which WINZ payment applies?
This is where most people get stuck, so it's worth being clear. The Disability Allowance is for regular, ongoing costs and can't be used to buy equipment — though it can cover equipment rental. One-off purchases go through a Special Needs Grant, an Advance Payment of Benefit, or a Recoverable Assistance Payment, depending on your circumstances.
Our WINZ Disability Allowance guide explains each one, with current rates and income limits.

WINZ mobility equipment FAQs
Can WINZ help pay for mobility equipment?
In some cases, yes. Work and Income may assist eligible customers with funding for essential mobility and daily living equipment, usually through a Special Needs Grant, an Advance Payment of Benefit, or a Recoverable Assistance Payment. The Disability Allowance is a separate payment for regular ongoing costs and can't be used to buy equipment.
Is Mobility Plus WINZ registered?
Yes. Mobility Plus is a registered supplier with Work and Income New Zealand, Supplier ID CUR003629836, status Active. Give this number to your case manager when requesting funding.
Can you provide a WINZ quote?
Yes. We regularly provide freight-inclusive quotes and invoices for customers to submit to their WINZ case manager. Email info@mobilityplus.co.nz or call 022 022 9956 and mention “WINZ Quote”.
How long does WINZ approval take?
Timeframes vary depending on your situation and case manager. We recommend contacting Work and Income directly for guidance on your application.
Does WINZ pay you directly?
In many cases, yes. Because Mobility Plus is a registered supplier, Work and Income can pay us by direct credit once funding is approved. The alternative is a payment card issued to you, which works on an EFTPOS terminal and expires after seven days — since your order is placed and delivered rather than paid for over a counter, direct credit is usually the simpler route.
Do I need to be on a benefit to get WINZ help with equipment?
Not always. A Special Needs Grant and the Disability Allowance are both available to people who aren't on a benefit, subject to income and cash asset limits. An Advance Payment of Benefit does require you to be receiving a main benefit, NZ Super or a Veteran's Pension.
