Grab Rails & Support Rails

Grab rails give you a fixed, load-bearing handhold where you need it most — getting on and off the toilet, in and out of the bath, and standing up in the shower. We stock stainless steel screw-fixed rails from 300mm to 900mm, angled and fold-up rails, and portable suction rails that need no drilling.

Which grab rail do I need?

• Screw-fixed stainless steel rails — the safest option. Bolted into a stud or solid backing, these take full body weight and are what an OT will specify. Best beside the toilet, along the bath and in the shower.
• Angled rails — the diagonal shape supports you through the whole movement of standing up, not just at one height. Good for getting off a low toilet.
• Fold-up (looped) rails — swing out of the way when not needed. Ideal in tight bathrooms and beside toilets shared with other people.
• Bath clamp rails — clamp onto the rim of the bath. No drilling, no permanent fixing, and removable if you're renting.
• Suction grab rails — portable, fitted in seconds on clean smooth tile or glass. Excellent for travel and for steadying yourself, but they are not load-bearing and must never be relied on to take your full weight or catch a fall.

What size grab rail should I get?

As a rule of thumb: 300–450mm for a short vertical handhold beside the toilet or at the shower entry, 600–700mm for standing support and general bathroom use, and 800–900mm where you need to move along the rail, such as the length of a bath.

Fixed or suction?

If the rail is there to take weight — pulling yourself up, transferring, or preventing a fall — it must be screw-fixed into solid framing. Suction rails are for balance and confidence only.
