The bed gets the attention, but the mattress is what protects skin. Choosing the right one comes down to three things: how much pressure care the person actually needs, how much they still move in bed, and how much they weigh.
Softer is not automatically better. Deep immersion protects skin but makes turning and transfers harder. If someone is still repositioning themselves, a firmer surface often serves them better. We would rather tell you that than sell you the most expensive option on the page.
Match the brand to the bed. iCare mattresses come in iCare bed sizes (Long Single, King Single, Long Double, Queen). Cubro mattresses come in Cubro sizes (Single, Super Single, Double, Queen). The names sound similar but the dimensions differ — see which mattress fits which bed.

The short version
- Not sure? The IC20 or IC30 suits most people on an iCare bed; the Mediflex on a Cubro bed.
- Still moving in bed? Firmer is easier — IC15 or M2.
- Light, or bony prominences? IC25.
- Sleeps hot? IC30, for the gel and charcoal.
- Over 215kg? IC15 or M1 (300kg), or the Alera MaxxLine 250.
- Double or Queen bed? The Posture-Temp, or an iCare mattress in Long Double or Queen.
- Allergies? The Posture-Temp is hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant.
- Incontinence? The M-Line and the Cubro mattresses include a waterproof cover as standard. Otherwise add a Zerotec cover.
- Fragile skin, long periods in bed? M3.
- Existing pressure injuries? VersaFlo3 — but please talk to us first.
