The IC15 is the firm mattress in the ActiveX range. Low immersion and a stable surface make turning and repositioning easier — which matters when someone is moving themselves in bed, or a carer is repositioning them several times a day.

It also carries the widest weight range in the range at 45–300kg, and at 150mm it is the slimmest, which helps keep side rails effective.

Why choose firm over soft?

It seems backwards — surely softer is kinder? Not always. A soft, deeply immersive mattress is harder to move on. If someone is still repositioning themselves, or transferring in and out independently, sinking into the surface works against them.

Easier turning and repositioning

Low immersion means less effort to roll, shift and sit up — for the person in the bed and for whoever is helping them.

Still genuine pressure care

Firm does not mean unprotected. ActiveX and XP Support deliver High Risk rated pressure care with a Waterlow rating of 20+ — the same clinical category as the softer mattresses in the range.

Room for heavier users

Rated to 300kg, well beyond the 200kg ceiling of the IC20 and IC25.

Kinder to side rails

At 150mm it sits lower than the 200mm and 225mm options, so side rails keep more of their effective height above the mattress surface.

How do I choose between the IC15, IC20 and IC25?

By feel and by who is using it. IC15 is firm, for easier turning and heavier users. IC20 is medium, the balanced everyday choice. IC25 is soft and deeply immersive, for lighter users, bony prominences and paediatric needs. All three are High Risk rated. If an OT is involved, follow their recommendation.

Is firm less comfortable?

Different rather than worse. People who need to move in bed often find a firm surface far more comfortable in practice, because they are not fighting it every time they shift.

Will it fit my adjustable bed?

Yes. It is designed for adjustable and profiling beds and bends with them, with Contour-Latch holding it in place as the sections move. It also works on a standard base.

Is it waterproof?

The standard cover is not. If incontinence is a factor, ask us about the medical-grade Zerotec cover — for the IC15 at 150mm you would want the 15cm depth.

Do I need to flip it?

No — flip-free by design.

Can I get funding for it?

Possibly. Pressure care mattresses are commonly funded where there is clinical need. It is arranged through an occupational therapist, who submits the request to Enable New Zealand or Accessable, or to ACC if the need arises from an injury. We are a registered vendor with Enable, ACC and MSD/Work and Income.
