What does stage 4 EPUAP mean?
EPUAP is the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel classification, running from stage 1 (intact skin with redness) to stage 4 (full thickness tissue loss with exposed bone, tendon or muscle). A mattress rated for stage 4 is specified for the most severe end of that scale.
Why does washing at 95°C matter?
It allows genuine thermal disinfection rather than just cleaning. The cover is also autoclavable and treated to Robert Koch Institute directives, making it virus and bacteria proof — which is why this mattress turns up in facilities as well as homes.
How is it different from the Mediflex?
The Mediflex has a 120kg safe working load and single-layer contoured foam. The Alera takes 250kg, uses three hyperelastic layers with super-soft head and heel zones, and carries a far more capable cover. If weight capacity or high pressure injury risk is the issue, the Alera is the answer.

Will it work on an adjustable bed?
Yes — the longitudinal and diagonal castellations are designed to support a range of profiling and bed positions.
Can I get funding for it?
Often, yes. Bariatric equipment and pressure care mattresses are both commonly funded where the clinical need is established, arranged through an occupational therapist. We are a registered vendor with Enable New Zealand, ACC and MSD/Work and Income.
