Buying Guide for Mobility Scooter Chargers

Understanding the correct charger for your mobility scooter is crucial. Using the wrong charger can damage your batteries and, in extreme cases, lead to overloads or fires.

Typically, your mobility scooter’s owner’s manual will provide details about the correct charger. If you don’t have access to the manual, you’ll need to identify the type and size of the battery installed in your scooter (refer to our Mobility Scooter Battery Guide). Once you have this information, you can choose the appropriate replacement charger.

It's also important to remember that a faulty or broken charger might not be the only issue. Identifying the cause of the malfunction will help ensure that your new charger doesn’t fail in the same way.

Types of Mobility Scooter Chargers

There are two main types of mobility scooter chargers based on battery type:

  • AGM (Sealed Lead Acid) Chargers: These chargers are categorised based on battery capacity:
    • 2Ah charger for batteries up to 22Ah
    • 4/6Ah charger for batteries up to 50Ah
    • 8Ah charger for batteries up to 110Ah
  • Lithium-Ion Chargers: Typically, these should be replaced with the original manufacturer’s options, as they generally require less powerful chargers.

While both AGM and lithium-ion chargers may use the same 3-pin connector, they are not interchangeable. Using the wrong charger can damage your batteries or, in some cases, even cause a fire.
